
Carol A. McDermott, 85, of Fremont died June 19, 2024, at her home.
Carol Ann Wiegand was born in Petersburg on January 11, 1939, to Henry E. and Barbara (Kunzman) Wiegand.
She grew up there graduating from St John the Baptist High School as class valedictorian in 1956. After graduation, she worked for the FBI in Washington D.C., Northwestern Bell in Omaha and Walmart in Fremont for 32 years.
She married William S. McDermott in Petersburg on June 13th, 1964, with William’s brother, Father Thomas E. McDermott officiating.
She volunteered at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Fremont as an EME, at Bergan High School in the lunchroom, and sang in two choirs. She also volunteered as a den mother for cub scouts and was a founding member of Fremont Area Right to Life.
She is survived by her husband, Willam S. McDermott; two sons, Philip C. McDermott (Deborah Correa), Michael S. McDermott (Neal Porter); granddaughters, Moriah Volmer (Matthew) and Cristina McDermott; great-grandchildren Chloe, Elliana, Adalyn, Melody, and Alessandra (Volmer); sister-in-law, Toni Wiegand.
She was preceded in death by her son, Matt W. McDermott; three brothers and three sisters.
Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Friday, June 28, 2024, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Fremont. The Rev. Fr. Walter Nolte will officiate. Rosary will be said at 6:30 p.m. with visitation from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Thursday at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont.
Burial at Calvary Cemetery in Fremont.
Memorials may be given to Right to Life.
