Bernard “Bernie” A. Larson, 81, of North Bend passed away Thursday, May 14, 2026, at his home surrounded by family.
Bernie was born on November 8, 1944, in Austin, Minnesota, to Levi and Marian “Ileene” (Marshall) Larson. He graduated from Lyle High School in Minnesota, in 1962. In 1965, Bernie served in the U.S. Army until his honorable discharge in 1967.
On April 26, 1969, Bernie was united in marriage to Diane Olson at Six Mile Grove Church in Lyle, Minnesota. In 1972, they made their home in North Bend. He worked for Hormel Foods in Fremont from 1972 until retiring in 2007.
Bernie was an active member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in North Bend and gave generously of his time to many community organizations. He was a member of AmVets, served on the North Bend Elementary School Board, contributed to the North Bend Library Board and the building committee. He served as the chairman of the community improvement program for one year and stayed active. Bernie was a devoted supporter of local sports and coached youth softball programs during the summers.
He is survived by his loving wife, Diane of North Bend; son, Matthew Larson of Fremont; daughters, Kristine Larson (Gary Jones) and Kimberly (Mark) Deveaux and all of Lincoln; sisters, Berneda (Keith) Hawton of Redwood Falls, Minnesota, and Betty Gardner of Rochester, Minnesota; grandchildren, Kyana Deveaux, Ayesiah and Treynell Deveaux; special family member, Kim Pearson. Bernie also leaves behind numerous beloved nieces and nephews and in-laws.
Bernie was preceded in death by his parents.
The memorial service will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 21, 2026, at St. Peter Lutheran Church in North Bend. The memorial visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 20, 2026, also at St. Peter Lutheran Church in North Bend. The burial with military honors will be at St. Matthew Lutheran Cemetery in Pleasant Valley.
