Ricketts Executive Order On Motor Vehicles Lifted

NEBRASKA- On Thursday afternoon, July 2, Governor Ricketts signed a new Executive Order now in effect, that amends the due date for Nebraskans to renew a driver’s license or complete vehicle titling and registration requirements. This Executive Order supersedes Executive Order 20-05 signed on March 19, 2020.
The new Executive Order rescinds Executive Order 20-05 effective at 11:59 p.m. on August 31, 2020. The Order specifically states:
“All driver licenses, identification cards, commercial driver licenses, other conditional or provisional permits, handicap parking permits, vehicle titles, vehicles sales tax, intransits, and vehicle registrations that were temporarily extended under Executive Order 20-05 will be required to be obtained and paid by August 31, 2020.”
The impact on your title and registration-related processes include the following:

  • On and after September 1st, all transactions for vehicles purchased more than 30 days prior to the date of application will calculate full penalty and interest back to the date of purchase.
  • Those individuals who have not renewed expired registrations may be cited by law enforcement.
  • Law enforcement may cite individuals operating vehicles with expired licenses (with the exception of those 72 and older, that extension remains in place).
