Fremont High School recently competed at the Nebraska State SkillsUSA Conference.

Advisors Brad Ryun and Jason Novotny accompanied seven students that competed in various events, including cabinetmaking, masonry, photography, pin design, related technical math, welding and welding sculpture.

Emmanuel (Indigo) Salas, a senior, won the state title in photography. He will represent FHS as well as Nebraska at the National SkillsUSA Championships in June in Atlanta.

Landyn Kavan, a senior, earned a silver medal in welding. He will compete at nationals if the state champion is unable to attend.

Other students that competed include: seniors Corbin Ewing in welding and Magaly Rios Gonzalez in welding sculpture; juniors Emely Garcia in related technical math and Isaac Hasemann in cabinetmaking; and sophomore Bella Garcia in masonry.

“The whole team competed very well and represented Fremont in a very positive way,” Ryun said, noting that the FHS SkillsUSA chapter has had 17 state champions and 32 medalists.

Novotny was voted on as a member of the Nebraska SkillsUSA Board of Directors.

Several FHS graduates earned medals for Metropolitan Community College competing at the collegiate level.

Denver Fincham was first in welding, followed by Porter Chandler. Kamrin Kavan was third.

Brandon Gallo took top honors in precision machining while Sam Wulf was second in CNC programing.
