On Monday, March 6, 2023, just after noon, Dodge County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a call to check on the welfare of animals at a rural property on County Road S , just west of Fremont. Deputies observed several dogs in distress and neglected. After a Search warrant was issued, deputies searched the property and located several violations.
With assistance from the Dodge County Humane Society, deputies seized over 20 dogs that were severely malnourished, neglected and with proper care. A deceased dog was also found on the property. All of the dogs are now receiving care and proper nutrition.
As a result of the investigation, Ortillo Magana-Magana, 58, of Fremont, was taken into custody on charges of Animal Neglect resulting in death, and 23 counts of Animal Neglect/Cruelty and Mistreatment of Animals.
