OMAHA – The University of Nebraska Medical Center has release the final Diamond Princess evacuee from the Medical Center campus, drawing to a close its involvement in the federal operation to quarantine people from that cruise ship.
The one remaining evacuee from the Diamond Princess cruise ship will leave Nebraska Medical Center campus this afternoon; another departed on Tuesday. This completes the federal operation that began February 7th with the arrival of 57 Americans evacuated from China and quarantined or treated at UNMC.
With the end of the federal operation, and as COVID-19 has become a statewide issue, UNMC will no longer be providing daily updates; instead, the hospital will release information as they deem necessary, and otherwise encourage people to watch the Nebraska Department of Health & Human Services website for the newest statewide information.
COVID-19 cases in the U.S. have reached about 6,520, with about 115 deaths. Worldwide, cases stand at more than 205,000, with about 8,250 deaths.
