A girl who was part of an anti-ICE protest Thursday afternoon at Fremont High School was injured after being hit by a red SUV displaying a Trump flag.

Fremont Police said it happened at about 2:30 p.m. at FHS. Dozens of students were part of the demonstration and were holding signs and chanting. A boy, who appeared to be high-school aged, parked his SUV with the flag in front of the school. He got out of the vehicle and exchanged words with the protesters. He then got back into the SUV, revved the engine and drove forward.
A female student was standing several feet in front of the vehicle, facing it and holding a sign toward the car. The driver accelerated and hit the protester, casting her to the side. The driver stopped briefly as Scott Jensen, Fremont Public Schools executive director of secondary operations approached. The motorist then drove away from the scene.
A News Channel Nebraska reporter captured video of the incident.

Police and paramedics responded to the school. The girl was loaded into an ambulance on a stretcher and transported to a hospital. She was alert and interacting with first responders.

FPS Superintendent Dr. Brad Dahl said student safety remains a top priority.

“We value our relationship with our first responders and their help today,” he said. “We will continue to work together to keep our students and community safe.”

At about 3:25 p.m., a group of student protesters were seen on east 23rd Street in Fremont holding various signs against ICE and the White House.

Officials said Thursday’s protest was part of a statewide movement that appears to have been organized via social media outlets.

As of 5 p.m., there is no word if the driver has been located. Fremont police said the investigation is ongoing.
