Former state senator Lynne Walz won the Democratic nomination for Nebraska governor Tuesday night.
The former teacher defeated challenger Larry Marvin by carrying 91 percent of the statewide vote. Walz will now face incumbent Gov. Jim Pillen in November.
“After months of traveling the state, I am thrilled to continue this campaign to the general in November,” Walz said. “We need a governor who will listen to Nebraskans and focus on getting our budget balanced and attracting good-paying jobs. I believe we have more in common than what divides us, and I assure you I will be a governor who is focused on Nebraska’s future.”
Throughout the primary, Walz traveled across the state holding listening sessions in rural and urban communities alike, emphasizing bipartisan solutions and a commitment to bringing people together.
“Nebraska deserves a governor who understands the challenges families are facing every day — rising costs, high property taxes, workforce shortages, and the need to keep young people in our state,” Walz said. “This campaign is about building a stronger future for every corner of Nebraska.”
The Walz campaign said she is in Lexington, Gothenburg, and McCook today to continue her effort to listen to more Nebraskans.
