Midland honors 2026 graduates

Midland University celebrated its undergraduate commencement ceremony on May 9 at the Wikert Event Center.

There were 237 graduates recognized during the event, representing Midland’s four colleges (Dunklau School of Business, Walker School of Education, Luther College of Arts & Sciences, and the College of Health Professions).

Lamont Wells, Executive Director of the Network of ELCA Colleges and Universities, served as the keynote speaker, while Midland University President Dr. Aly Williams also delivered a message to students.

Pampa Raffin, a Business Administration major from Cordoba, Argentina, was the student speaker.

Music was provided by the Midland University Choir.

Sarah Sjoberg received the John H. Prauner Award. The award is presented annually to a member of the senior class who best exemplifies scholarship and citizenship, outstanding qualities Prauner was known for before his passing during his senior year at Midland in 1977. A native of Citrus Heights, California, Sjoberg is a Biology major with a compressed major in Business Administration. She is a member of the Howard Hanson Honors Program and also a captain on the Midland University Shotgun Sports team.

Midland University hosted its Omaha & Online Commencement on May 8at the Wikert Event Center, recognizing 100 graduates, including 34 students in the Teacher Career Ladder program who received their Bachelor’s degrees. It was also the first class of graduate students for Midland’s Doctor of Education (EdD.) program.

Wells was the keynote speaker for the event, while Dr. Williams also addressed the graduates.

Terra Uhing, executive director of Three Rivers Public Health, was the student speaker. Uhing earned her Doctor of Education in Leadership and Innovation from Midland.

Other events surrounding commencement festivities included a Baccalaureate service on May 7 at Sinai Lutheran Church and the Nurse Pinning ceremony on May 8, also at Sinai.
