Fremont City officials want to dispel the rumor that the power plant exploded.
In a news release Thursday afternoon, the city said the rumor on social media about an explosion was false.
The power plant did release steam due to a combination of factors, which is a normal response to steam pressure. Emergency crews were also dispatched for a crew member for issues unrelated to the plant.
Officials also discussed the widespread power outages. They noted that as the ice melts, electrical facilities are facing disruptions. Crews are following the proper processes and procedures to restore power as quickly and safely as possible for utility customers. The Omaha Public Power District is on its way to assist local crews.
The City is working in collaboration with the Dodge County during this unusual emergency. Residents are advised to treat any downed wires as live and exercise extreme caution.
