Authorities have confirmed that the body of a missing Fremont teenager has been recovered from the Platte River.
The body of Jackson Potter, 17, was recovered Thursday near Sokol Camp in Douglas County.
Potter was with family and friends Sunday night at Hormel Park. His sister Addisyn was in the water when the sand shifted. She was going under and her brother jumped in to save her. She made it to safety, but he was swept away by the river.
Potter was a 2024 Fremont High School graduate. He was planning on attending Western Nebraska Community College next month in Sidney with plans on becoming an aviation mechanic.
“This is a tragic loss for our community and school district,” Fremont Public Schools Superintendent Mark Shepard said. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and loved ones of Jackson.”
The district crisis team will be available from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Friday (July 5th) in the Lenihan building lobby, 130 East Ninth Street.
