Bergan Catholic Schools announced recently the approval of system-wide accreditation.

This marks the first time in school history that Bergan elementary & Bergan middle/high School have been recognized for this level of certification as a combined school system. Bergan Catholic School’s accreditation is granted by Cognia™, a nonprofit improvement organization that provides quality assurance for schools, school districts, and education service providers.

“It is a privilege to be a part of Bergan Catholic School as we reach this milestone as a school community together,” Bergan President Dan Koenig said. “Being able to achieve this distinction as a school system demonstrates to the Fremont area our commitment to excellence, our openness to review and feedback, and our desire to be the best we can be on behalf of the students and families that we serve.”

Throughout its more than 125 years of service, Cognia, formerly AdvancED, has globally recognized schools that meet rigorous standards focused on productive learning environments, equitable resource allocation for the needs of learners, and effective leadership. Earning accreditation from the Cognia Global Accreditation Commission recognizes that the school meets Cognia Standards of Quality and maintains a commitment to continuous improvement.

To achieve Cognia accreditation, a school also must implement a continuous process of improvement and submit it to external review which took place at Bergan Catholic in late February 2024. Schools in good standing can maintain their accreditation
for a five-year term. Bergan Catholic’s official status of Cognia Accreditation will be recognized and approved at the Global Quarterly meeting of Cognia on June 26, 2024.

Parents and interested community members can learn more about the Cognia Accreditation at cognia.org.

“I would like to congratulate Bergan Catholic Schools on the hard work that was evident in their Accreditation Engagement Review,” said Shannon Vogler, Midwest regional director of Cognia. “I especially would like to note the Index of Education Quality which indicates Bergan Catholic has met Cognia’s Performance Standards and expectations for accreditation at a high level. Bergan’s
commitment to the rigor of a globally recognized regional accreditation process through Cognia sets this school system apart and demonstrates the value the school community places on quality, best practice, and authentic improvement.”
