Albinas “Al” Benkis

Albinas “Al” Benkis, 88 years, passed away Wednesday, July 14, 2021 at his home. He was born on February 17, 1933 in Lithuania to Albinas and Eugenia (Slikas) Benkis, Sr.
He arrived in the United States, settled in Boston, in 1949. He soon moved to Omaha, Nebraska where he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and served during the Korean War from 1953 – 1956. He married Darlene Agee in Papillion, NE in 1977. He was employed by AT & T for 29 years and 16 years with the rail crews in Fremont, retiring in 2016.
He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Fremont and the American Legion Post 20.
Al is survived by his wife, Darlene of Fremont; sons, Lawrence Benkis of Beatrice, NE, David Benkis of Council Bluffs, IA; daughters, Cathy (Jeff) Missinne and Janet Benkis all of Omaha, NE and Shannon Beasor; brother, Joe (Stephanie) Benkis; sister, Theresa Misiunas, all of Omaha; 8 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Ludwigas and Zigmas and sister, Donna Dale.
Funeral will be 11 A.M., Saturday, July 17, 2021 at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont. Chaplain Charles Starks will officiate. Visitation will be from 6-8 PM on Friday also at Moser’s.
Interment and Military honors will be at Pleasant View Cemetery near Leshara, NE.
