FREMONT – Here’s a look at local sports today, with Rich Ray:

Midland U

The Midland Warrior basketball teams hosted Mount Marty at the Wikert Event Center, last night.  In women’s action, Midland won 70-64.  Lexis Hasse hit a three-pointer to extend the lead to four and McKenna Sullivan and Emma Shepard had key steals which led to baskets, in the closing minute, to help the Warriors secure the victory.  Head Coach Shawn Gilbert talks about the win:

 
Midland was led by Peyton Wingert with 21 points.  Haase had 17 and Shepard added 13.  The Lancers got 17 from Karlee McKinney and 15 from Sarah Castaneda.  The Warriors are 13-8 on the year and 10-8 in the GPAC, while Mount Marty is 4-16 and 2-15 in the league.
In men’s basketball action, the Warriors had a 38-36 lead at halftime, but the Lancers hit five three’s in the first ten minutes of the second half to open up a ten point lead and held off the Warriors 79-78.  The Lancers were led by Tyrell Harper with 19 points.  Kade Stearns scored 14, Jailen Billings added 13, Elijah Pappas had 11 and Luke Ronsiek added ten for Mount Marty.  Midland got a game-high 24 points from Jake Rueschoff.  Arturo Montes scored 15 and Bo Sandquist added ten.  Mounty Marty is 8-14 and 5-12 in the league.  The Lancer men and women host Morningside on Saturday.  Midland is 4-14 and 2-13 in the league and the Warrior men and women host Northwestern on Saturday.
The Midland Baseball team began the spring portion of it’s schedule with a pair of games, in Mesa, Arizona, yesterday.  Midland lost to College of Idaho 13-12 and dropped a 7-4 ballgame to Benedictine-Mesa.  The Warriors are 1-3 on the season.
The Warrior Cheer team hosted a dual with Dickinson State, last night at Hopkins Arena.  Dickinson State would claim the win 77.07 to 77.05. The Warriors will host the Midland Invitational, Saturday.
 

Blair Basketball

The Blair High boys basketball team played Bennington in the EMC Tournament last night.  With more, here’s Brian Abrahams:

 
The Blair girls basketball team opened the EMC Tournament with a 50-44 home win over Elkhorn.  Blair plays at Norris tonight at 5:30.  The game will be broadcast on Boomer 97.3 FM.
