North Bend voters approved a bond issue that will fund a new station for the volunteer fire department.
About 1,300 ballots were mailed on Jan. 20 and needed to be returned to the Dodge County Clerk’s Office by Tuesday. There were 444 votes for the bond and 143 against it.
Pat Tawney, the president of the Rural Fire Board, the governing body that oversees the volunteer department, told Walnut Media earlier this month that lack of space was an issue at the current station, located at Seventh and Maple streets.
The new building, which will be located on the land which was the home to the former Leroy’s Steakhouse, should improve that issue. Tawney said the new building will be more than 13,800 square feet on the main level. The current station, built in the 1970s, has about 6,275 square feet.
