Authorities are investigating a crash that resulted in the deaths of two people and injured another person Sunday morning.
Douglas County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched at about 2:38 a.m. Sunday to a head-on crash on U.S. Highway 275 north of Pawnee Road southeast of Fremont.
Roberto Carlos Contreras Gonzalez, 27, was driving a 2018 Nissan Kicks sedan when it struck a 2009 Volvo XC90 head-on in the southbound lanes of 275. Contreras Gonzalez and his passenger, Cinthya Servin-Castillo, 42, of Fremont died as a result of the accident.
Authorities said the preliminary investigation shows that the Nissan was traveling north in the southbound lanes of the highway while the Volvo was traveling south in the southbound lanes.
Contreras Gonzalez and Servin-Castillo were declared dead at the scene. Alcohol is believed to be a factor in the accident.
The driver of the Volvo was transported to Bergan Mercy for minor injuries.
