Schuyler schools put in secure state as a precaution

On Monday afternoon, law enforcement authorities notified Schuyler Community Schools that they were searching for an adult male that had warrants out for his arrest and a history of violence.

The man was somewhere on foot in the Schuyler area. Dr. Bret Schroder, superintendent for SCS, put a post on Facebook notifying the public that all in-town buildings in the district were being put in a secure state – meaning that classes would continue as normal, but that all outside doors would be locked and no students or staff would be allowed outdoors.

Later in the afternoon, Schroder said that the Colfax County Sheriff’s Office had notified that district that the man was no longer in the area. Operations returned to normal with a regular dismissal time for students.

Schroder commended his staff for helping ensure the safety of the SCS students.
