The Fremont Public Schools Board of Education conducted its monthly meeting on Monday night.

Fremont High School student Draven Riffel presented on the recent Jobs for America’s Graduates (JAG) student trip to Washington D.C. FHS had two students, Selah Worthy and Riffel, elected to state leadership positions.

As part of their leadership responsibilities, they represented the State of Nebraska at the National JAG conference on Nov. 30 to Dec. 4 in Washington D.C. As part of the conference they attended leadership development training sessions and networked with student from across the nation bringing
back ideas on how to strengthen the JAG programs in Fremont and Nebraska.

Jason Chicoine, Clarmar Elementary School principal, and Mindy Chandler, Howard Elementary School principal, each presented their school’s Continuous Improvement Plan to the board.

The board also reviewed and approved the 2023-2024 and 2024-2025 school calendars for the Learning Center, Pathfinder/Young Adult Program and Preschool.

An upgrade to the sound system in the Al Bahe Gymnasium at Fremont High School was approved for a cost of $31,500. The work will be completed by the FPS Tech Department and Morrisey Engineering.

An interlocal agreement between Fremont Public Schools and the City of Fremont was approved by the board. This agreement allows FPS to install and use discus and shotput rings at 3647 East Fremont Drive (the field between Johnson Crossing and the Splash Station), near the new Fremont Middle School Track. This will aid in management/supervision of the track practices and meets next spring when the middle school and high school programs will use the facility.

The board approved the purchase of a new Case TR310B Compact Track Loader, with attachments, from Titan Machinery in Fremont at a State of Nebraska contract price of $71,990.00.

During the meeting, a contract for the removal and replacement of an Aerco Benchmark BMK 2000 in the Lenihan Building was approved. The contract was awarded to Boiler Chiller Systems of Omaha for a price not to exceed $68,300. The 12 year old boiler failed in late December requiring replacement.
