The Fremont High School Class of 2022 endured many trials and tribulations during the past four years.
During his opening remarks at Sunday’s graduation ceremonies at the Wikert Event Center, senior Carter Waters acknowledged those challenges. He noted the area flooding of 2019 and the COVID-19 pandemic of the past two school years.
Waters was one of 324 students who earned diplomas Saturday on the campus of Midland University. There were 218 students honored for their accomplishments, including department honors, cum laude and cum laude with high distinction.
Board of Education President Sandi Proskovec challenged the graduates to continue to give back.
“You have endured much, these experiences have strengthened you and provided you with resilience – a trait that will serve you well in your future endeavors,” she said.
Mackenzie Kirby was recognized for being awarded as a National Merit Scholar – one of 2,500 scholars out of 15,000 finalists from across the country.
Macy Bryant, Francisco Garcia, Jr. and Taylor McCabe challenged their classmates to continue to learn, honor the adults in their lives that have made them successful and never forget where they came from.
Superintendent of Schools, Mark Shepard recognized the individuals from the Class of 2022 who have made the commitment to serve their country in the armed services.
Shepard also recognized the many accomplishments of the Class of 2022, “over the past four years, the class of 2022 have been part of more state championships and runner-up (finishes) than any other class in our recent history.”
Elli Dahl and McCabe were recognized for being named Nebraska Gatorade Players of the Year in cross country and girls basketball, respectively.
Several special honors were recognized during the ceremony.

● Best Citizen – Waters
● Best Citizen – Mallory Schleicher
● Best Citizen – Brady Millard
