Authorities respond to swatting call at FHS

police-lights

Fremont Public Schools and the Fremont Police Department are providing information regarding a swatting call at Fremont High School. There have been other similar calls across the state recently.

FPS officials want the public to know that students are safe at school. Here is what happened this morning:

● The FHS office received a call from an anonymous number stating there was a threat at the school at approximately 10:40 am.

● FHS officials immediately contacted Fremont Police and Fremont Public Schools Security to report the call and follow their instructions.

● As a precautionary measure in the interest of safety, FPS Security directed us to use our Standard Response Protocol of Secure while they and police investigated the reports. Secure means there is something of concern happening outside of the school. Everyone is brought inside the building and entrances are locked and monitored. Teaching and learning, along with movement inside the building, happens as normal.

● Fremont Police and FPS Security did a sweep and determined this was a false report, otherwise known as “swatting”. “Swatting” is when individuals call in fake active incidents to schools in an effort to disrupt the learning environment.

● At 11:45 a.m., the Secure was lifted and teaching and learning continued as normal.

● FPS will have increased police presence throughout the rest of the day.

Fremont Police continue to investigate the incident. If anyone has information that will assist in the investigation, please contact Fremont Police at (402)727-2677. Those responsible will face legal consequences for causing the disruption.
