flood-watch

The National Weather Service in Valley has issued a flood watch until 10 p.m. Monday for the Platte, Elkhorn and Loup rivers due to potential ice jam development.

The heightened threat is due to persistent warm weather. Those with interests along area rivers, especially in low-lying areas, should remain vigilant to the potential for rapidly rising water.

Counties that could be affected include: Dodge, Washington, Saunders, Butler, Colfax, Douglas, Sarpy, Platte, Antelope, Madison, Pierce, Stanton and Cass.

Officials said the formation of an ice jam could result in the sudden rises of water, leading to a rapid flooding situation. Ice jams can cause water fluctuations of one to three feet over a short period of time and without much notice.
