A Fremont man who authorities say had child pornography on his electronic devices was sentenced in federal court in Lincoln on Thursday.
U.S. District Judge Susan Bazis sentenced David McCown, 41, to 280 months in prison for production and attempted production of child pornography. There is no parole in the federal system.
After McCown’s release from prison, he will begin a 10-year term of supervised release and be required to register as a sex offender. McCown was also ordered to pay restitution to one of the victims as well as to contribute funds to an account established for victims of these types of crimes.
In July of 2023, investigators with the Fremont Police Department received a cellphone and other electronic devices belonging to McCown which were suspected to contain child pornography materials.
Authorities obtained a search warrant for the devices, and upon further review found multiple child exploitation videos dated between 2020 and 2023. They appeared to be original productions involving three minors who were known to McCown, according to Acting U.S Attorney Matthew Molsen.
After McCown was arrested, he agreed to an interview during which he allegedly admitted to recording the videos of the minor victims.
In addition to FPD, the case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
