FHS Girls and Boys Bowling teams win HAC titles

The Fremont High School girls bowling team earned the Heartland Athletic Conference championship Wednesday.

It was a good week for FHS bowlers competing at the Heartland Athletic Conference Championship tournaments this week.  Both teams can back to Fremont with HAC championship trophies.   The Fremont girls bowling team traveled to Sun Valley Lanes in Lincoln on Monday January 27th for the Heartland Athletic Conference Championship tournament.  All 11 teams bowled 3 traditional games of qualifying, after which the top ten are seeded into a single-elimination, best 3 out of 5 Baker game bracket.   Individual qualifying scores also determine the 15 All-conference honorees.

Fremont, the number two seed in the tournament by wildcard points, opened qualifying against 5th seeded Grand Island.  FHS got individual match points from Macey Bates (168), Kai Valentine ( 159), Kaylee Halladay(150), and Marinn Meyer (149), on their way to a 754-663 team win over the Islanders in a 7-1 match victory.

#8 seed Lincoln North Star was next, and the Tigers got wins from Halladay ( 172), Meyer ( 157), and Valentine ( 139).  Fremont won the team point, 701-585, and the match 6-2.

Game 3, Fremont threw against 11 seed Lincoln high.  Fremont rolled to an 8-0 sweep of the links, led by Alyssa Dorenkamp ( 167), and got singles points from Bates (163) , Valentine ( 157), Halladay ( 142) and Meyer (122) for a 751-459 match final.

Kaylee Halladay, (464, 10th) earned 2nd Team All Conference honors, while Macey Bates (457, 12th), and Kai Valentine ( 455, 14th), made 3rd team.  Meyer added 428, and Dorenkamp 402, as the Tigers earned the #2 seed in the Championship Bracket with a total score of 2,206.

Lincoln Southeast advanced out of the play-in round, to meet Fremont in the round of 8.  The Tigers took a quick 2-0 lead in the match (145-122, 174-159), but the Knights rebounded to take games 3 and 4 ( 134-143, 138-141), to set up a winner take all 5th game.  Fremont saved their best for last, securing the match with a 176-150 win.

The FHS girls made quick work of Lincoln East in the semis, downing the Spartans 3-0 (171-135, 148-144, 169-131) to advance to the championship match.

Number 5 seed Grand Island defeated top seed Norfolk in the other semifinal, setting up a title match between Grand Island and Fremont.

Fremont struggled to build momentum early, dropping games 1 and two ( 135-165, 118-146).  The Tigers, with their backs to the wall, won 3 elimination games to reverse sweep Grand Island ) 135-133, 152-148, 158-144) and secure the 2025 Heartland Conference Championship.

The Fremont High School boys captured the Heartland Athletic 

Conference championship on Wednesday. 

The FHS Boys HAC Championship took place on Wednesday, January 29th at Sun Valley Lanes in Lincoln.   All 11 teams bowled 3 traditional games of pool play qualifying, with the top 10 being seeded into the best of five Baker match play bracket.

Fremont, the #1 seed in pool play, faced #6 seed Norfolk, #7 seed Lincoln Northeast, and bowl unopposed in the 3rd game.

The Tigers came out firing, taking game 1 over Norfolk, 1013 – 815.  Trenton Kreikemeier rolled a 233 game to lead Fremont.  Andrew Wusk (210), Isaac Barton ( 203), and Gehrig Kuddes ( 196), also won singles points for FHS, who won the match 7-1.

Fremont swept Lincoln Northeast in Game 2.  Kreikemeier (225), Wusk (203), Kuddes (202), Barton (177), and Chase Fowler (157), all secured match points for the Tigers, along with the team game 964-775.

In game 3, the Tigers bowled unopposed and would be playing against the average score in the field.  They responded by rolling 1011, and sweeping the ghost points 8-0, lead by Barton (230), Kuddes (213), Wusk (205), Kreikemeier (188) and Fowler (175).  Based on thier 3 game total, Fremont secured the #2 seed for the match play bracket.

After a 1st round bye, Fremont would match up with Lincoln Southeast.  After splitting the first two games, (205-191, 148-165), the Tigers caught fire and rolled to a 3-1 win (219-162, 224-154) and advanced to the semifinals against Lincoln Northeast.

FHS jumped out to an early lead against the Rockets (188-140, 238-142), before stumbling in game 3, 148-157.  Fremont sealed the deal in game 4, by downing LNE 175-158, setting the final matchup against top seed Columbus.

In the Championship match, Fremont started strong and took game 1, 198-153.   Columbus rallied back in game 2, to even the match with a 201-228 win.  The Tigers responded with a big 245-165 win in game 3.  Both teams struggled in game 4, with the match coming down to the 10th frame.  Andrew Wusk converted a 3-8 spare, while Columbus converted a 3-7 split in the 10th frame, forcing a Fremont strike for the win.  Andrew Wusk responded with a perfect shot on the fill ball, securing a 159-156 win and the Heartland Conference Title.

Trenton Kreikemeier (646, 3rd place), Andrew Wusk (618, 5th place), Gehrig Kuddes (611, 7th place), and Isaac Barton (610, 8th place) secured All-Conference honors for the Tigers.  Other members of the HAC Championship team are Chase Fowler, Braylon Lamson, Cruz Aufenkamp and Maison Woodock.

The Boys and Girls Bowling teams will return to action at the A-4 District Tournament, Tuesday February 4th at Maplewood Lanes in Omaha.
