Kansas woman faces charges after Monday pursuit

dodge-county

Dodge County dispatch received a call at 5:43 Monday afternoon of a possible impaired driver traveling westbound on U.S. Highway 275 entering from Douglas County.

A Dodge County deputy caught up to the suspected impaired driver on New U.S. Highway 30 near Ridge Road. The deputy activated his emergency lights and siren to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle, but the vehicle did not yield to the deputy and continued westbound on New Highway 30 without stopping. The vehicle continued to drive erratically, nearly colliding head-on with a semi and driving in the ditch.

At Highway 30 and Highway 79, the vehicle came to a stop after Dodge County deputies utilized manual tire deflators, flattening three of the tires.

The female driver was contacted and was identified as Leslie Delgado, 26 of Kansas City, Kansas. Three children in her vehicle were determined to be 5, 3 and 11 months old.

At 6:14 p.m., Delgado was placed under arrest. The result of a breath test administered to Delgado was 0.290 B.A.C.

Delgado was booked on the charges of DUI +.15 B.A.C., flight to avoid arrest – second offense, willful reckless driving and child abuse-intentional/no injury – three counts. The children were released to the Department of Health and Human Services.
