Former soccer club official sentenced

A woman accused of embezzling money from the Fremont Soccer Club was sentenced to a year of probation on Tuesday in Dodge County Court.
Anna C. Stone, who served as the club’s treasurer starting in the summer of 2019, pleaded no contest to theft-unlawful taking, a Class I misdemeanor. She was also ordered to pay $6,000 in restitution and court costs.
The Fremont Police Department began an investigation of Stone in October of 2021. After discussions with club officials, investigators requested bank records and copies of canceled checks.
Court records show that 30 checks totaling more than $24,000 were written to Stone’s husband, Chad Stone from August of 2019 to September of 2021. Investigators say all but two of the checks ranged between $300 to $2,000. Club officials said no checks were ever authorized to be written to Chad Stone.
Club officials also stated that no cash sales from a 2020 tournament were ever deposited into the FSC’s bank account.
