City hosting career fair Tuesday

If you are looking for a new career challenge, the City of Fremont wants to talk to you.

The city is having a career fair from 2 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Christensen Field Main Arena. All departments will be available to discuss employment opportunities.

“We’re using this not only for our current jobs but also for people who might in the future want to change career paths and want to know what it takes to be a line worker or get into engineering or something like that,” said Jennifer McDuffee, human resources director for the city. “People can talk to others who are actually in the business. We’ve actually contacted college and high school students to come out and talk to us, too.”

McDuffee said the police and fire departments currently have openings. Help is also needed at Keene Memorial Library, the power plant, emergency dispatch, and other departments.

Those other departments, include Parks and Recreation where there is a big need for seasonal help.

“We’ll have a booth, especially for Parks and Rec summer help,” McDuffee said. “A lot of other departments are looking for help in the summer, too. All of our departments will be there and will be represented, but we’ll have some that are specifically looking for summer help.”

McDuffee said the city offers competitive benefits packages.

“We have great health insurance. It is extremely reasonable, too,” she said. “Medical, dental and vision insurance starts Day 1. We have disability and life insurance and we have a great retirement program. It all kind of depends on where you work as far as what your benefits package exactly looks like, but it is a good package with starting vacation and sick (time) right away.”

Attendees will have the opportunity to win a summer pool pass. City equipment, including police cruisers, fire vehicles, loaders, bucket trucks and a 911 simulator will be on display.

“We’re going to bring some of our toys with us,” McDuffee said, noting that the Parks department will also have some games available.

Kiosks will be available to complete online applications.
