Fremont Public Schools is releasing information related to Board of Education Goal No. 3 – Student Outcomes.
Officials said in looking at the results of the student performance on the state summative assessment, there is a need to look where FPS is as a district. Research has supported that there are many external factors influencing a student’s educational performance.
In 2020-21, FPS has a total enrollment of 4,868. The percentage of those receiving free/reduced meals is 58% while the state average is 46%. Special education enrollment is at 19% for FPS compared to 16% for the state.
English Learners at FPS is at 16% compared to 7% in the state. High Ability Learners is 15% locally and 13% for the state.
Fremont Public Schools is also reporting ACT scores for 2021. Fremont High School’s composite score for the most recent ACT test taken is 18.7.
“When compared to the projection produced by ACT for where students in Fremont should score, we are above the prediction line. This is a testimony to the hard work that our teachers put in to engage our students,” said Kate Heineman, executive director of teaching and learning.
The district is also reporting that the Class of 2021 had 325 graduates with a graduation rate of 85.08%. The Nebraska Department of Education reports their official graduation rate for the state as 87.56%.
Fremont’s numbers include any and all students that have joined our enrollment during the course of high school at any stage of education. Conversely, looking at the same class of students that were enrolled at FPS from seventh grade through graduation in 2021, the graduation rate is 94.68% (282 students, with 267 graduating on time).
“The longer we have them, the better they do,” FPS Superintendent Mark Shepard said during Monday night’s board of education meeting. “We can’t influence how (students) come to us, but we can certainly influence what we do with them while they are here.”
With this information, FPS continues to use student data to inform instructional decisions and practices, leading to greater success for all students.
“FPS has made and is continuing to make updates and adjustments to all curricular areas and leveraging our resources to provide the necessary instruction and materials to help move our students forward,” Heineman said Monday night.
