MainStreet Christmas Walk set for Saturday

Mother Nature is expected to cooperate Saturday during MainStreet Fremont’s Annual Christmas Walk.

“The weather looks good which is really great for us,” said Amy Vermeline, MainStreet executive director.

The day will start with Waffles with Santa at the Milady Coffeehouse at 105 E. 6th St.

“You can come from 9 to (noon) and have a coffee and waffles and really start the day off there,” Vermeline said. “Then, all day, we’ll have a Frozen-themed bounce house (northwest corner of 6th and Park Avenue).”

The executive director stressed that the family-friendly event won’t break the holiday bank.

“This whole day on Saturday is completely free to the public,” she said. “The participating businesses downtown have put a lot of thought and effort into making this possible. They are coming up with kid crafts in their businesses and they have something for everybody, including discounts and specials as well as holiday snacks.”

The MainStreet office is also participating with something that should have a broad appeal for children.

“We’re going to have a Santa letter writing station,” Vermeline said. “Anybody can come and send letters to Santa Claus. We’ll have magazines that they can kind of cut out and send pictures if they aren’t quite writing yet. That will be a really fun activity from 12 to 2.”

Holiday hayrack rides are available from 3 to 5 p.m. with Santa expected to appear again at about 5. There will also be live music throughout the day to set the tone for the holidays. The Fremont High School choir will sing Christmas carols prior to the tree lighting ceremony that is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.

There are also activities planned in the evening.

“After the tree-lighting ceremony, you can swing over to Gallery 92 where they will be doing free face painting for the kids and the kids get to walk away with a free Christmas book,” Vermeline said. “It is almost going to be like Halloween Hysteria. Kids and adults will be able to walk away with lots of great things and a great experience.”

Vermeline said MainStreet’s Facebook page has a list of all the activities with the times they are scheduled.

“We also want to encourage people to take pictures and share them with us,” she said. “We want to see what your experience is like down there.”
