The $123 million, no tax levy increase bond issue for Fremont Public Schools passed Monday night.
Based on unofficial results from the counties of Dodge, Saunders and Douglas, the bond passed 65 to 35%. There were 3,987 votes for the bond and 2,164 against.
“In Fremont, we are fortunate to have a community that supports our public, private and parochial schools,” FPS Superintendent Mark Shepard said. “I am not surprised by the results. They reflect the community’s sentiment and priority which is placed on education.”
Brett and Heidi Richmond and Chuck and Caryl Johannsen were co-chairs for the Task Force for Kids Campaign committee.
“This is a great example of the way our community comes together to support the identified needs,” Chuck Johannsen said.
Further planning for the facility upgrades will begin immediately with construction commencing as early next spring and all projects completed in the next three to four years.
FPS officials said BVH Architects and Morrissey engineering will begin design work soon and DA Davidson will package the bonds in preparation for issuing the debt, taking full advantage of the very favorable bond market.
Board of Education President Sandi Proskovec thanked voters for their commitment to the future of students.
“Our students, staff and community will all benefit from this positive vote for our future,” she said.
