MainStreet of Fremont to host Summer Fest on Saturday

Downtown Fremont is expected to be bustling Saturday during the third-annual Summer Fest.

The event, hosted by MainStreet of Fremont, should provide plenty of bargains for local shoppers as well as various activities for children.

MainStreet Fremont Executive Director Shannon Mullen said the event was previously known as “Crazy Days” until 2019.

“It is a sidewalk sale and a great opportunity to catch really good deals at many of our retailers in the downtown area,” Mullen said. “Some of our service-based industry groups are also getting involved. We’ll have all kinds of things going on.”

The event is scheduled for 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Children’s activities will begin at about 10 a.m. The Midland men’s basketball team will have a mini hoop to work with kids. A lemonade stand and tattoos will also be available.

Mullen said Third Street to Fifth Street on Main will be shut down for the event. Many businesses, including Abe Krasne Home Furnishings, Sampter’s, Lou’s Sporting Goods and SWS Fashion Company will have various items out for sale.

“People can also go throughout the downtown and find savings at other facilities that are not right on Main Street,” she said. “Park Avenue Antiques gets involved. A lot of our other businesses will get involved with some sales activities as well.”

Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, the Summer Fest went on in 2020 with certain precautions. This year’s event is just another step in getting the community back to a sense of normalcy.

“I think everybody wants to ease back into that,” Mullen said. “It is hard to believe that we’re talking about kids going back to school here in a few weeks, but it is gearing up for all of those things that we’ve looked forward to getting back involved within the community again. This is one of those steps and we’re looking forward to hosting the Halloween Hysteria this fall which everybody really missed last year.”

The executive director hopes the public will come out to support local businesses and enjoy a summer day.

“I think events like this are super important to our downtown retailers and service-based industry,” she said. “These kinds of events are really the bread and butter of many of their sales days and I know that they really appreciate when people shop local and think local.”
