FREMONT – Fremont Public Schools released information related to current COVID-19 numbers within FPS and other school system updates.

COVID-19 Update

The breakdown of the numbers is as follows:
Total number of students absent today for any illness: 153

The District does not release information by school or grade level in an effort to not share information that is personally identifiable. This would be in violation of FERPA (Federal Education Rights to Privacy Act) and potentially employment and HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability Accountability Act) laws.

Virtual Learning

The District also released current enrollment numbers for students participating in the virtual
learning environment. As of today, 445 students are enrolled in the virtual school option – this
represents approximately 9.3% of the overall student enrollment of 4,783.
Fremont Public Schools is supporting online and in-class students by providing tutoring services. The District has partnered with Midland University to provide certified teachers from FPS, future teachers from Midland University, and other Midland students with knowledge of a variety of content areas.
Students are able to get one-on-one tutoring in a breakout room in a Zoom video conference. FPS offers a morning session (8:00 am – 11:00 am) and an evening session (6:00 pm – 9:00 pm) each Monday and Thursday. High School tutoring is currently available only in the evenings.

3RPHD COVID-19 Risk Dial

The Three Rivers Public Health Risk Dial for Dodge County increased from 1.75 to 2.0 – in between yellow and orange. As a reminder, the Dial utilizes eight data points on a rolling three-week average.
“The movement in the Dial is a reminder that COVID-19 is not going away in the near future and the number of individuals quarantined due to exposure is a reflection of our community’s current status,” stated Mark Shepard, Superintendent of Fremont Public Schools. “COVID fatigue is real and we need to continually remind ourselves that we must follow the protocol outlined by Three Rivers Public Health, and remain diligent in our adherence to these measures.”

Remembering Good Hygiene

Fremont Public Schools, working with the Three Rivers Public Health Department, would like to
remind families of good hygiene habits to help prevent the spread of COVID-19.

  • Wash your hand frequently
  • Avoid touching your face and wear a mask
  • Wear a clean mask every day
  • Stay home if you feel sick
  • If you are waiting for COVID-19 test results, stay home

Three Rivers Public Health Department, working with area school districts, continues to analyze
the data related to exposures at school, and to date, has not had a single positive test due to
transmission at school when all parties were wearing a mask. The District continues to identify
ways to strengthen protocols and keep students and staff safe.
“We will be working with Three Rivers and area school districts throughout the next week to review and revise our Blueprint and the District’s response where necessary, should the dial continue on its current trajectory,” stated Shepard. “We know that districts in the Omaha Metro and Lancaster County continue to operate with students in school while in the dial’s Red designation with great results. Staying in school, following protocol, has proven to be a safe place for students and staff.”

No School November 5 & 6

The District announced earlier this week that an additional day next week will be designated for teacher preparation of lessons in the online learning management system. There will be no school on November 5 and 6. “Our teachers are working hard and truly appreciate the recognition of their efforts and the time being allotted for them to continue to deliver a quality program through these challenging times,” stated Doug Sheppard, Fremont Education Association President.

Halloween Celebrations

With Halloween, this weekend, Three Rivers Public Health offers the following suggestions to
families to celebrate safely.

  • Celebrate with your household by staying home, decorating, and planning fun activities.
  • If you are going trick or treating, keep groups to eight individuals or less, use hand
sanitizer while you are out, and wash your hands when you return home. Don’t eat candy
    while trick or treating.
