Lady Warriors Show Improvement on Day Two of GPAC Championships

DAKOTA DUNES, S.D. – After 36 holes of the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Women’s Golf Championship, Morningside College (+45) has pulled away from the field, leading by 86 strokes. Midland University (+259) and the rest of the teams will have their work cut out for them when play continues this spring.
After shooting an opening day 429, the Warriors improved by 15 strokes with a 414 on Tuesday.
Olivia Engel, a sophomore from Columbus, Nebraska, leads the Warriors with a score of 198 (+52) and currently sits in a tie for 39th place. Senior Renee Marcotte, from Nebraska City, has the next lowest score for Midland with a 202 (+56) and is tied for 46th place.
Rounding out the team for the Warriors are Erin Baum (204, +58) and Claire Westerholdt (239, +93). Tehya Cuypers shot a 124 on the first day before withdrawing on day two.
Maria Zorilla of Morningside is the individual leader thus far with a 154 (+8). Her teammates Sam Knight (155, +9) and Laia Badosa (156, +10) are close behind.
The GPAC Championships will continue this spring with 36 holes to be played at Bent Tree Golf Club in Council Bluffs, Iowa. The dates will be determined later.
