FREMONT – The Fremont Police Department shared a statement on its Facebook Page this morning regarding fraud complaints.
FPD says they are continuing to see fraud complaints trickle in wherein the victim receives a phone call from a person identifying himself or herself as a police officer, usually working for an out-of-state police agency.
The victim is told that someone used his/her personal information in the commission of a crime. The victim is instructed to send a sum of money, usually by gift cards, to resolve the criminal matter or an arrest warrant will be issued immediately.
FPD says to remember that NO police department will call you demanding the immediate payment of money in any form, cash, gift cards, or otherwise, to resolve a criminal investigation.
Fremont Police says that the best thing to do if you receive a similar call is to just hang up!
