FREMONT – It was a mixed bag of wins and opportunities to learn in local sports this weekend, with contests in cross country, football, tennis and volleyball.
The Fremont Tiger cross-country teams ran at the Millard South Invite at Walnut Creek Golf Course this weekend. Both the Tiger boys and girls finished in first place.
The boys scored 21 points. Fremont had nine runners finish in the top 15, led by Carter Waters in 16:41.50. Gabe Hinrichs of Elkhorn South won the meet in 15:51.90. In girls action, Fremont scored 18 points. The Lady Tigers had six runners place in the top 12. Mara Hemmer was the meet medalist in 20:02.50.
In high school football, Fremont beat Bellevue East, 42-14 and Archbishop Bergan downed Lincoln Lutheran 46-20. The Midland Warrior football team lost to Dordt, 22-14, on Saturday. Midland is 0-1 on the season.
The Fremont boys tennis team finished fifth in the Fremont Invite, Saturday, with 31 points. Omaha Westside won the meet with 45. Alex Bigsby finished first at #1 singles, to lead the Tigers, and Shane Miller finished second at #2 singles.
On the volleyball court, the Fremont Tiger volleyball team went 2-and-2 in the Bellevue East Invite, beating Norfolk and Columbus Scotus, and losing to Omaha Westside and Bellevue West. Fremont is 8-6 on the season.
Meanwhile, the Bergan volleyball team went 2-and-1 in the Bergan Tournament. The Knights beat Schuyler and Lourdes Central Catholic and lost to Humphrey St. Francis. The Knights are 9-3 on the season.
