SIOUX CITY, Iowa — Midland University wrapped up its 2026 season in Sioux City, Iowa, facing Briar Cliff University to conclude a four-game series. The Warriors fell 9-4 in Game 1 of the doubleheader, while Game 2 was canceled in the second inning due to lightning and rain, bringing a heartbreaking end to the season.
GAME ONE: Briar Cliff 9, Midland 4
Briar Cliff got on the board first in the second inning, drawing three consecutive walks and adding a single to bring in a run.
The Chargers extended their lead to 5-0 with a grand slam in the fourth inning.
Midland responded in the top of the fifth. Nick Segura led off with a walk, and Jimmy Martinez reached on an error. Hunter Spencer then loaded the bases with a single, and Segura scored on a balk. With two outs, Dax Wandler delivered a double to bring home Spencer and J. Martinez. Anthony Martinez later reached on a fielder’s choice, and Eimir Perez Jr. singled to score Wandler, cutting the deficit to 5-4.
The Chargers answered with a run in the bottom of the fifth and added three more in the sixth to take a 9-4 lead. Briar Cliff held Midland scoreless the rest of the way to secure the win.

GAME TWO
Game 2 was halted after two scoreless innings due to lightning and rain and was ultimately canceled.
Midland finishes the 2026 season with a 12-35 overall record and a 7-20 mark in GPAC play.
The Warriors will graduate 22 seniors, including fifth-year players.
“We have an awesome group of seniors, and they will be missed,” head coach Shea Bennett said. “Thank you to our seniors for everything you have done for our program. You helped build a culture and created so many great memories. They gave everything to this program and left a lasting impact. I love them all.”
