Lyman G. Nelson, 89, of Hooper passed away Thursday, April 9, 2026 at Pathfinder Senior Living in Fremont. He was born December 13, 1936 in Winslow to Kenneth and Doris (Packer) Nelson.
Lyman was raised on the family farm just north of Hooper and graduated from Hooper High school in 1954. He married Judy Christensen on May 27, 1956 at Faith United Methodist Church in Hooper. They had 7 children. Lyman and Judy raised their children just north of Hooper and moved into town in about 1985.
Lyman and Judy were both Amateur Radio Operators and were active in the Dodge County Pioneer Radio Club for many years. He was member of faith United Methodist Church until their closing. He also enjoyed family history and genealogy and played a huge role in beginning the digital preservation of his family history.
Lyman is survived by his children, Julie Rican (George Loaris), Grand Island; Don Nelson, Arlington; Connie Gibbs and Patti Smith, Hooper; Jeff (Kellie) Nelson and Bob Nelson all of Fremont; brother, Dale (Gina) Nelson, North Carolina; 10 grandchildren, Jeremy and Josh Rican, Tricia (Matt) Medinger, Ryan Nelson, Matt and Kyle (Jordyn) Swanson, Candy Perry, Tyler and Brenden Perry-Nelson and Hannah (Chris) Parr; and 12 great grandchildren, Jacob, Elliott, Lily, Averie, Kylie, Kian, Ryker, Zoey, Willow, Hazel, Claire and Harper.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Judy (Christensen) and son, Mike Nelson.
A private family celebration of life will be planned for a future date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be left for the Nebraska Federation of the Blind or the Dodge County Pioneer Amateur Radio Club.
