FREMONT, Neb. — Midland University hosted Hastings College for a Great Plains Athletic Conference doubleheader on a cold Monday afternoon. The Warriors fell 9-2 in Game 1 and dropped a heartbreaker, 7-6, in Game 2.
GAME 1: Hastings 9, Midland 2
Hastings got on the board first in the top of the third inning with a double and a single to score two runs on three hits.
The Broncos added seven more runs — three in the fourth, three in the fifth and one in the sixth — to extend the lead to 9-0.
Midland got on the board with a solo home run by Anthony Martinez. Owen Glover was then hit by a pitch, and a single through right field by Jimmy Martinez brought home Glover to cut the deficit to 9-2.
Hastings kept Midland off the board the rest of the way to secure the 9-2 win in Game 1.

GAME 2: Hastings 7, Midland 6
Dax Wandler put the Warriors on the board first with a solo home run to right field in the bottom of the second inning to make it 1-0.
Wandler added another home run to right field in the fourth inning to extend the lead to 2-0.
Hastings answered in the top of the fifth with a two-run home run to tie the game at 2-2.
Anthony Martinez responded in the bottom half of the inning with his second home run of the day, crushing a ball to left-center field to give Midland a 3-2 lead. A single by Brody Boyle followed by a hit-by-pitch to Jimmy Martinez put two runners aboard before Owen Glover launched a three-run home run to right field to extend the lead to 6-2.
Hastings cut into the deficit in the top of the sixth with back-to-back home runs to make it 6-4. The Broncos then added three more runs to take a 7-6 lead.
The Warriors were unable to rally late and fell in a 7-6 heartbreaker.
