
Carol A. Meier, 81, of Nickerson died Wednesday, February 25, 2026
Carol was born November 17, 1944 in Fremont to LaVerne and Doris ‘Hilgenkamp’ Busch. She was raised on a farm near Telbasta. She attended church at Immanuel Lutheran and St. John’s Lutheran. She graduated from Hooper High School in 1963 and went on to school at the Lincoln School of Commerce.
She worked in Lincoln then married Don Meier on December 4, 1966. The couple moved to Hooper where they lived until moving to a farm southwest of Hooper. Carol’s working years were spent mostly at the Hooper Care Center and the Hooper Elementary School until retiring.
Carol loved music and working with her flowers in her she-shed. Some even described her as an expert with violets. She enjoyed sports; she played intramural softball for many years in Lincoln and cheering for the Huskers. After Don passed in 2006, she loved traveling to watch her grandchildren’s activities. She was a member of Peace Lutheran Church where she was very active. She also enjoyed singing with the area Christmas Cantata and having coffee with very dear friends. She married Richard Schurman on March 1, 2014. They enjoyed being on the go … Alaska, Canada, Branson, on the farm, and anywhere the grandkids were. Survivors: Husband – Richard, daughters – Nikki (Nate) Ruffcorn, Ann (Heath) Holtz; aon – Tim (Hailey) Meier; brother – Larry Busch; aister – Connie Busch; grandchildren – Mackenna & Kaleb Ruffcorn; Gabe, Grady & Greely Holtz; Ellsie & Roland Meier; Richard’s children – Michelle (Mark) Desler and Marie Schurman; Richard’s grandchildren – Dan (Melissa) Desler and their children Ashlyn, Kinley and Colson; Katie Desler; Karina, Colin & Jazlyn Von Seggern Carol was preceded in death by her parents, husband Don, and Richard’s son Aaron.
There will be no viewing but the family will receive friends 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 3, 2026, at the Ludvigsen Mortuary Chapel. The memorial service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 4 at Peace Lutheran Church east of Fremont. Memorials are suggested to Peace Lutheran Church or Mission Central (LCMS).
