Three Rivers offers tips to stay healthy for 2026

As we begin the new year, Three Rivers Public Health Department (3RPHD) is encouraging residents to take simple, caring steps to protect one another by staying home when sick and helping reduce the spread of illness in our communities.

Health officials are currently seeing a high level of upper respiratory illnesses across the counties, including flu and COVID-19. While many people will recover at home, these illnesses can be more serious for older adults, young children, and individuals with underlying health conditions. Staying home when you are ill is a simple yet powerful way to protect those most at risk.

Three Rivers has these suggestions to help keep communities healthy:

· Stay home when you are sick and avoid public places when possible.

· Return to work or school only after you have been fever-free for at least 24 hours without using fever-reducing medication and symptoms are improving.

· Wash your hands often and cover coughs and sneezes.

· Clean and disinfect commonly touched surfaces.

· Consider wearing a mask if you must be around others while recovering.

Vaccination is still one of the best ways to reduce severe illness, hospitalizations, and complications from respiratory viruses. Flu and COVID-19 vaccines are available at the Three Rivers Public Health Department offices, and appointments and walk-in availability may vary by location.

“Our goal is to keep our communities healthy and strong,” Executive Director of Three Rivers Public Health Department Terra Uhing said. “We know it can be hard to slow down when life is busy, but staying home when you are sick is one of the best things you can do for your family, coworkers, and neighbors.”

You can visit one of the Three Rivers Public Health Department locations for your flu or COVID-19 vaccine. Walk-ins are welcome, and appointments are available to fit your schedule.
