
Gregory H. “Greg” Ishmiel, 81, of Fremont died Friday, Oct. 31, 2025, at home in Fremont. He was born March 5, 1944 in Fremont to Raymond and Agnes (Scholtz) Ishmiel. Greg grew up in Fremont and was a 1962 graduate of Bergan High School. Greg married his high school sweetheart Barbara J Jordan on June 10, 1963.
Greg pursued his career with Northwestern Bell/US West and retired after 30 years of service. His joy in life was helping others, especially those who struggled with projects. He was Mr. Fix It of all things and donated his time and talents without any expectations. His spectrum of skills were wide and he never hesitated in figuring out how to make things work by creatively using what was available. His friends and family were near and dear to his heart, and he was always there to lend a hand, provide a ride, and had a story or a joke to share.
Greg is survived by his wife Barb of 62 years; daughters, Kim (Brad) Hess, Kathi Ishmiel; grandchildren, Karissa (Matt) Swanson, Brandon (Brittany) Hess, Andrew Longwell, Angie (Justin) Peitzmeier, Kylie (Peter) Maenke; great-grandchildren, Quinn Swanson, Aaron Peitzmeier, Trevor Peitzmeier, Ambrose Longwell, Emma Peitzmeier, Brooke Hess, Blake Hess; brother-in-law, Denny Collier, Lowell Rabe, Ron Morrissey, Frank Maersch; sister In-law Nancy Maersch and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; infant daughter, Kristine; brother, Raymond “Bill” Ishmiel and sister, Jacqueline Collier.
Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, November 10, 2025, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Fremont. Visitation will be from 4-6 p.m. Sunday Nov. 9 with a Vigil Service at 6 p.m. all at Moser’s in Fremont.
