
Arlene Rae Vyhlidal of Fremont was born December 9, 1939, in Merna to Jim and Julia (Christensen) Fritz. She passed away Sunday, August 10, 2025 in Fremont.
Arlene lived and attended schools in Merna and Anselmo before the family moved to Oregon when she was 10 years old. While in Oregon she lived and attended school in Coos Bay and North Bend, Oregon before returning to Nebraska to live with her sister Louise in Fremont in 1957.
While working at the Main Street Cafe in Fremont she met Stanly Vyhlidal of North Bend, Nebraska who frequented the cafe after Navy Reserve meetings.
Arlene married Stanly Vyhlidal December 26, 1959 at Cedar Hill Catholic Church near Morse Bluff. After marriage, Stanly returned to active duty and the couple moved to Boston and then Norfolk, VA before settling in Fremont with their first two children in 1962.
Arlene worked at Blue Star Foods in Wahoo for a short time before marriage. After returning to Fremont in 1962, Arlene stayed home to raise their six children and care for many neighborhood children. After her youngest was raised she went to work at Merrick Manor and FAMC for 12 years, continuing to care for others. After retiring she volunteered at the Low-Income Ministry for many years.
Arlene joined the Catholic church when she married Stanly, she was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Fremont, St. Pat’s Women, a member and past regent of the Catholic Daughters of the America’s Court #2253, American Legion Post #20 auxiliary and VFW Post #854 auxiliary.
Arlene is survived by her husband Stanly, her six children Gene (Ann) Vyhlidal, Mike Vyhlidal, David Vyhlidal, Kenny Vyhlidal, Rose (John) Leffler and Julie (John) Klein, many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, her sisters Donita Krumback, Judy Smith, and Betty Zwicker, brothers Duane Fritz and Leonard Fritz.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Jim & Julia Fritz, daughters-in-law Ruth Caddy Vyhlidal and Brenda Vyhlidal, sisters Vivian Mecham, Louise Matson, her twin sister, Darlene Panowitz, brothers Dean and Lyle Fritz.
Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m., Monday August 18, 2025, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Fremont. Fr. Walter Nolte will officiate. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday followed by a Catholic Daughters Rosary at 7, all at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont. Visitation will continue on Monday one hour prior to the service at the church.
