William “Bill” C. Blumer

William “Bill” C. Blumer, 82, of Fremont passed away June 12, 2025 in Bellevue. He was born on December 17, 1942 in Beemer to Leonard and Alice “Blanche” (Conrad) Blumer.

After graduating high school, Bill served in the U.S. Army from 1964-1966 during Vietnam. He relocated to Fremont and married Joyce Hassler on February 17, 1968 in West Point. Bill and Joyce lived in Fremont until 1981 when they moved to Cozad. They came back to Fremont in 1988. Bill was a bricklayer for 20 years before beginning his career at Oilgear in Fremont. He retired in 2009 but continued to work in custodial and food service delivery for Fremont Public schools until 2015.

He was an avid reader. He really enjoyed fishing, camping, and making diamond willow canes.

William is survived by his wife, Joyce; daughters, Deb (Gail) Griess of Sutton, Michelle Leenerts of Papillion, Angela (Michael) Plahn of Lincoln; sister, Nancy (Rod) Tomrdle of Fremont and eight grandchildren, Jessica (AJ) Fruchtl, Stephanie (Matt) Laetsch, Gina Osterhaus, Justin Leenerts, Abigail Osterhaus, Anna Leenerts, Connor Plahn and Brooke Plahn and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; parents -in-law; sisters, Kay (Vic) Houser and Cora (Clifford “Shorty”) Braun.

Memorial Mass will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 18 2025 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Fremont. Memorial visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont. Interment with military honors will be at Calvary Cemetery in Fremont.
