SEWARD, Neb. – Midland University traveled to Seward, Nebraska, on Thursday for the start of the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Postseason Baseball Tournament. The fifth-seeded Warriors took on fourth-seeded Briar Cliff University in the opening game at Plum Creek Park. Originally scheduled for a 3 p.m. first pitch, the game was delayed until 6 p.m. due to weather.
After a quiet first inning, Jacob Liquori led off the second with a double and advanced to third on a groundout. He came around to score on a Briar Cliff error, putting Midland in front 1-0.
The score remained unchanged until the sixth when Eimir Perez singled and moved to second on a hit by Hadyn Crawford. A fielder’s choice and a throwing error allowed Perez to score, giving the Warriors a 2-0 lead.
Briar Cliff responded in the bottom half of the inning with a grand slam to take a 4-2 lead and held Midland scoreless the rest of the way to hand the Warriors a tough loss in their postseason opener.
