Leona B. Hanis, 91, of Fremont passed away, Wednesday, April 16, 2025, at Methodist Fremont Health.

Leona was born December 4, 1933, in Abie to James and Lillian (Brecka) Vidlak. She graduated from David City High School in 1952. She married Frank Hanis on November 7, 1953 at St. Peter and Paul’s Church in Abie. They moved to Fremont in 1955.

Leona worked at the Fremont High School until retiring in 1992. She was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Fremont and the Fremont Eagles Auxiliary.

Leona is survived by her husband, Frank of Fremont; grandchildren, JD Hallowell, Tara (Ben) Decker, Michael (Kelli) Ransford, and Ryan (Tasha) Schaer; eight great-grandchildren: Trent, Lauryn, and Jack Hallowell, Leah and Lexi Schaer, Angel Salinas, and Miles and Landon Hanis; sons in law, Dave (Pam) Hallowell and Tom Schaer.

She was preceded in death by her son, Jeff Hanis; daughters, Linda Schaer and Jan Hallowell; and brother, Leonard Vidlak.

The Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 22, 2025, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Fremont. The visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, April 21, 2025, at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont with Rosary said following the visitation on Monday at 7 p.m. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Fremont.

Memorials may be directed to St. Patrick Catholic Church in Fremont.
