FREMONT- The Fremont Area Chamber of Commerce (FACC) has been hosting weekly Zoom meetings with manufacturers in local communities to inform the public on important matters happening during the pandemic.
This week’s meeting hosted UNL Meat Specialist, Dennis Burson, to talk about how safe our meat is during the pandemic.
Burson said, “You know being in a food facility, one of the things that people might be concerned about is whether the food is safe that’s being produced in these facilities. COVID-19 is not thought to be transmitted to humans through the food.”
Executive Director of the FACC, Tara Lea, also wanted to explain the measures that plants and manufacturers are taking to ensure the safety of their workers.
“I think they have taken many measures since day one, especially here in Fremont [NE], whether it be bringing in the extra hand sanitizing stations, or the masks and guards. I know that all of the places here have actually separated the break rooms, they have shields between people during lunch, and they are trying to space people out as much as they can. Their not built to be six feet apart, but by no means are they shoulder to shoulder inside those facilities,” said Lea.
Lea also stated, “I think the best part is a lot of them are still paying their employees when they’re not coming to work. If they are sick, they are still offering to pay them and take care of them, and encouraging them not to come in.”
