Fremont Public Schools has announced the appointment of  Dr. Brad Dahl as the superintendent beginning July 1.

Dahl was approved as the superintendent for a three-year term by the Board of Education at Monday night’s meeting. He will replace Mark Shepard who will retire in June. The motion to approve Dahl stated that the board will finalize the contract and details at a future date.

Dahl has been the executive director of business and student services/associate superintendent since 2014. Prior to working at Fremont Public Schools, Dahl was the associate superintendent at Ralston Public Schools. He also served as special education/student services director for Bennington Public Schools and began his teaching career in Blair. Dahl has 26 years in education.

Dahl, a Scribner High School graduate, completed his bachelors, masters and doctorate at the University of Nebraska-Omaha.

“Brad is recognized statewide for his knowledge and expertise in the area of special education and business/school finance. His experiential background coupled with his commitment to Fremont has positioned him well to lead FPS and continue to champion the great things happening in our school district,” Shepard said. “Brad’s work during the construction over the past three years has allowed our projects to be completed on time and within budget – projects that will serve our community well for years to come.”

Dahl’s service to the Fremont community includes serving on the Greater Fremont Development Council Board, Fremont Community Health Resource Board and previously the Fremont Family YMCA Board and Fremont Area Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors.

Dahl and his wife Carrie, a Doctor of Nursing in the CHI Health system, have three daughters, Elli, Maris and Jenna. They attend First Lutheran Church where Brad is a past church council member.

“FPS is a great school district because of the dedication and hard work of our staff and the direction and actions from our administration. Dr. Brad Dahl has been an active part of that for more than a decade,” FPS Board of Education President Sandi Proskovec said. “We know he is talented, smart and dedicated. We have seen first-hand his expertise with school budgets and his leadership as the associate superintendent, and as the acting superintendent when Mr. Shepard has been away. It is clear that he is the best person to lead our schools next. The board is very excited about the consistency, mixed with new ideas that Dr. Dahl brings.”
