
Richard A. Majerus, 77, of Fremont passed away, October 9, 2024 at CHI Bergan Mercy Hospital in Omaha.
Richard was born on December 3, 1946 at Lake Manawa, Iowa, to Leo and Alice (Hoffman) Majerus. He received his GED before attending Des Moines Area Community College. After attending school Richard served in the U.S. Army from 1966-1968 during Vietnam. In 1975, Richard married Linda Fittje at St. James Lutheran Church in Johnston, Iowa. In 1977 they moved to Arlington. In 2010 they relocated to Fremont.
Richard worked as a Horticulturist. He had been the head groundskeeper at the hospital in Fremont, and the Southroads Mall in Omaha. He coached the Hospital slow-pitch softball team.
Richard was a former member of Sinai Lutheran Church in Fremont. He was an avid gardener and loved watching NASCAR and game shows. He was a fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes, playing sheep head the card game, adult coloring, and square dancing.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Alice; his wife, Linda; and five sisters.
Richard is survived by sons, Alan (Crystal) Pugh and Ron (Susanna) Majerus both of Bellevue, and Rick Majerus Jr. of Des Moines, Iowa; daughter Layne (Joe) Butler of Grafton, Iowa; 16 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren with one on the way; brothers Tony Majerus, Larry Majerus, Bill Majerus, and Carl Majerus, sister Judy Majerus; numerous nieces and nephews; and special friend Pauline Carlson of Elkhorn.
The funeral service will take place at 11 a.m. Monday, October 14, 2024, at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont. The visitation will begin one hour prior to the service.
Burial with military honors will take place at Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Platte Center.
