
Beverly Jean ‘Dirks’ Jacobson, 95, of Fremont passed away Thursday, September 26, 2024, at Providence Place in Fremont.
Beverly was the oldest of 8 children. She was born on February 18, 1929 to Siebert Frederick and Clara Belle ‘Schutt’ Dirks on a farm in Cedar County, Coleridge, Nebraska.
She was preceded in death by her parents Fred and Clara Dirks, husband Cecil Jacobson, brother Ronald (Marion) Dirks, Maynard (Cathy) Dirks, sister-in-law Sharon Dirks, brother-in-law Jerald Jacobson and close friend Robert ‘Jip’ Schreck.
She is survived by her son Terry (Margaret) Jacobson of Stanton, California.; daughter Barbara (Douglas) Rice of Fremont, brothers Raymond (Judy) Dirks of Steelville, Missouri.; Claire (Ilene) Dirks of Sioux City, Iowa; sisters Sharon (George) Benson of Sioux City, Iowa; Shirley Gay of Aurora, Colorado and Jewell (Ken) Reifenrath of Sioux City, Iowa. She is also survived by daughter-in-law Beverly Saalfeld of North Bend. Grandchildren, CJ Jacobson of Covina, California; Shar (Chad) Bennett of Papillion, Wendy (Bobby) Curtis of Omaha, Jennifer Brandt of Allen, Texas; Dan Rice of Fremont, Mindy (Dale) Pinkelman of Lincoln and Sarah (Brian) Kruse of Grand Island. Honorary grandchildren Seth, Jason and Adam Saalfeld. 17 great-grandchildren, 12 great-great-grandchildren and blessed with many wonderful nieces and nephews. She was known as “Grandma Jake” to all.
Beverly started at country school in Coleridge where she and her two brothers rode an Indian pony named “Charm” to school, who was charming to look at except he would always buck them off before school but would always gallop home after school. In May, 1946 Beverly graduated from Randolph High School with at 2-year country school teaching certificate. She then taught in Randolph and Wakefield.
She was waitressing in Randolph where she met Cecil Phillip Jacobson, who had just returned home from the war. They were married June 21, 1947 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Coleridge. They lived and worked in Wakefield, Norfolk and then settled in Fremont. Beverly was employed as payroll manager/accounting at JC Penney and then retired from Liquid Feed Commodities in 1994.
She was a very dedicated member of Good Shepherd Lutheran church where she enjoyed singing in the choir. She also enjoyed golfing, bowling, playing bridge and bunco, square dancing and was a faithful member of the “Forever Fit” class at the YMCA. Beverly lived a long and full life, was loved by everyone she knew or met. She loved to laugh and always had a smile. We are truly blessed to have had her as long as we did.
The funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, October 1, 2024, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Fremont. Lunch will follow the service. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, September 30, 2024 at the Ludvigsen Mortuary Chapel in Fremont with the family present 5 to 7 p.m. Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, October 2, 2024 at the Randolph Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the family.
