Kyler Dale Nelson, 90, of Fremont passed away Wednesday, July 10, 2024, at Methodist Fremont Health. He was born July 1, 1934 in Burwell to Ray and Galene (Flint) Nelson.
Kyler lived in Burwell until moving to Kearney in 1939. He graduated from Kearney High School in 1952 and received his B.A. degree from Kearney State Teacher’s College in 1956. He then lived in Alliance until 1959. Kyler received his master’s degree from Kearney State in 1960. In 1960 he moved to Fremont. Kyler married Mary Alice Wear in Big Springs in 1955. They had two sons, Dirk and Kory Nelson. Mary Alice died from cancer in 1990. In 1992 he married Carolyn Lambrecht-Svatora.
He was a business education teacher at Alliance High School for 3 years and Fremont Senior High School from 1960 until 1994 when he retired.
Kyler was a member of the Fremont Presbyterian Church for over 50 years, Fremont Jaycees for eight years, Toast Master International for seven years, and Fremont Cosmopolitan Club 100 for more than 30 years. He played bridge in the same bridge club for over 40 years and played golf every Tuesday from 1994 until present day. He loved to fly. He owned a 1961 Cessna 172 and flew it for more than 30 years out of the Fremont Airport. He also was an Angel Flight pilot from 2003 until 2015.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Nelson of Fremont; sons, Dirk (Grace) Nelson of Little Rock, Arkansas, and Kory (Kim) Nelson of Parker, Colorado; granddaughter, Alyssa Nelson; stepdaughters, Janie (John) Clopper of Fremont; Kathy Clapper of Omaha; step-grandchildren, Brianna(Cortland) Cassidy, Kailey (Donald) Hanson, Mandy (Leif) Nesheim and Ryan (Chelsey) Gabrukiewicz; step great-grandchildren, Luke and Sylvia Nesheim, and Jayson, Jude, Jarret Gabrukiewicz; and nephews, Mike (Kathleen) Swindell, Doug (Geralyn) Swindell and David (Jill) Swindell.
Preceded in death by his parents, wife, Mary Alice and infant son, Kirby Nelson; sister, Jemna Swindell .
Funeral will be 10:30 a.m., Monday July 15, 2024, at Fremont Presbyterian Church. Rev Dr. Earl Underwood will officiate. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Moser’s in Fremont.
Interment will be 1 p.m. Monday, at Memorial Cemetery in Fremont.
