A little bit of automotive history will be rolling through Fremont Friday morning.
The Museum of American Speed announced earlier this week that the “Sea to Sea in a Model T” will make stops in Nebraska on its cross-country trek.
Bob Buer, secretary for the Fremont Area Car Club, said one of those stops will be in Fremont.
In 1924, the 10 millionth Model T rolled off the assembly line in Detroit. It then completed a “sea to sea” publicity trip from New York to San Francisco. To celebrate that 100-year anniversary, a 1924 Model T recreation is replicating the trip following the old Lincoln Highway.
The car was donated to the museum by the family of the late Dr. Alan Hathaway. This will be the third cross-country trek for the Model T — it made the journey on the 50th and 75 anniversaries. After the trip, the car will be on permanent display at the museum in Lincoln.
The Model T is expected to arrive in Fremont at about 10:30 a.m. in the parking lot in the 1900 block of East Military Avenue. Members of the car club plan to have a few classic cars in the lot where Rise and Shine Donuts, Dollar General and other businesses are located.
Buer expects the Model T will come into Fremont from the east on Military. It is unknown how long the car will be in the city.
Other stops in Nebraska include Saturday at the Museum of American Speed in Lincoln, Sunday at the Pump & Pantry in Grand Island, Monday at the Classic Car Collection in Kearney and also the Historic Spruce Street Station in Ogallala.
